Topic: Downloading digital game with physical disc

So I just bought fifa 19 from the ps store and saw how big the download is. I currently don’t have wifi so I have to use mobile data. So I borrowed my friends fifa disc and was wondering if I download it from the disc if I can play without the disc as I bought it from the ps store. So does it convert to digital or not as I don’t have enough data to download it from the ps store

@jacky3101 Why did you buy the game digitally in the first place if you can only use mobile data? You can check the file size before you download the game on the ps store.

You can either download the game or play it from disc. Like @Frigate says there are two different licenses. I've bought games from store when I've had the disc, and the ps4 will ask to delete the disc file from your ps4 and you will need to download the game file from the store. You will still keep your save files if you had any however.

You should be able to install the game code from Disc and use your Digital licence to play it! An example of this can be the PS+ games where I have installed a game from disc. then they give us the game free, I no longer have to put the disc in to play and don't have to download the game either...

@BAMozzy I had this with Rachet and Clank which I had on disc. When it came on ps+ I tried to download it, and I got a message saying I need to delete the game file. I then had to download the game again .

I've also done this with games not on ps+, for example Doom which I bought form the ps store as my mate from work bought my physical version. The same thing happened.

I think you may be getting confused with how it works on Xbox, which is a bit differently apparently.

@JohnnyShoulder You shouldn't have to. I add my PS+ games via the PC online store and haven't needed to download games - not that I have many that have been given free by PS+ and certainly have never needed to on Xbox. The game code is exactly the same - the only difference is the type of licence.

@BAMozzy I edited my response after you replied to me. That is what happened. Maybe it shouldn't, but that is how it worked for me.

@JohnnyShoulder Maybe I am getting confused with Xbox - I really don't have too much experience of having games installed from Disc and then being offered them on PS+ and then trying to play them. The majority of PS+ games are games I wouldn't buy and the few I may have, I had probably finished - I am sure that it has worked on the 1 or 2 games - but I could be wrong.

I know for definite it works like this on Xbox though. I have bought games like Sunset Overdrive for example and never had to download but could play with the digital licence. When my son visits and signs into my console, he can play any of the games he bought digitally without having to download the 'digital' versions because the License to play is tied to his profile and the game code is the same. I would have thought the PS4 would be similar too - maybe I am wrong - wouldn't hurt to try it though...

@owais7ali_YT that’s just it installing. If you put it in the bath at the same time the water will help lubricate the disc drive so you’ll get better graphics once it’s installed.
