Topic: Best games to play with your mates (Local co-op mode)

Recently I've bought myself a 2nd controller and when a friend of mine came over we've decided to play some games but then I realized I don't have any multiplayer games... That's one of the features I really love Nintendo for. Sony seems to be more online-focused.
I thought Drive Club would be nice but then I learnt it doesn't support split- screen multiplayer, so we ended up playing Guacamelee. I'll probably get MKX soonish but that's the only game that comes to my mind... What are you games to play with your friends on a coach? Maybe Call of Duty? Is it any good? Never played any entry in the frenchise Rayman Legends looks cool but I was thinking of something where the 2nd player can start playing without any tutorials or introduction to the story.

Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition is a great couch co-op game.

Some others off the top of my head are

Lego Marvel if you like Lego games and the Marvel Universe.
Borderlands The Handsome Jack Collection if you like FPS games
Injustice God's Among Us If you like fighting games
NBA 2K15 If you like basketball or sports games
Madden
FIFA

There are also some great couch co-op indie games that are pretty cheap available on the PSN store games like

Tower fall Acension
Splunky
Dead Nation

That should get you started for now if I think of more I will post them.

Don't forget the best ever Couch Coop next to Diablo III...

HELLDIVERS

Do yourself a favor and dive straight into this with a mate. It's brilliant.
Also Diablo III (can't mention it often enough).

Also what I personally really enjoy are the wrestling games, but I'd wait for WWEK2K16 there in October!

Tower Fall Ascension, as mentioned by Tasuki already is great fun too.

All-time classic of couch-gaming also is MINECECRAFT.

For me, that's the most mention-worthy.
Oh and Diablo III.

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.

Diablo III it is then, will probably grab is as soon as I find a nice bargain, saw it earlier for under 20! Been wanting to play Diablo III for a while now, actually.
But, just one concern, if my mates don't play as often I as do and we just want to have fun once in a while, wouldn't asking them to play Diablo from the mid-game too much? Don't they need to level their own character? I was thinking about something less commiting, that people can jump in at any time, might be competitve as well. Like Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Party, or any split-screen shooter. Are there any good split-screen driving games on ps4?

TowerFall Ascension indeed looks like an amazing fun, might grab that one as well!
Borderlands also looks super tempting. I played Borderland II on PC and loved the game

Thanks for the answers

Towerfall Ascension is a great co-op game. You should also look into Octodad. It's good co-op fun, and it's not too long so if he comes over a few times you should be able to beat it with him.

@mateg: Story is not a big issue in Diablo III the big meat of the game is adventure mode and that unlocks once you beat story mode.

The game is also tailored for people of different levels to be able to play together so if you have a higher level character then your friends the can still play with you, damage is done I believe on a percentage scale so that way everyone can play together. Diablo III is one of my most requested co-op games when I have some friends over.

@mateq Trials fusion taking turns, sounds daft but every five crashes or after a level pass the pad on. Not co-op as such but really good fun.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Nidhogg!

If you don't know it, it's an 8-bit 2D fencing game. You start on opposite sides of the screen and the aim is to keep running to the other side, through three screens, until you win. To be able to travel in your direction, you have to kill the other player. The fighting is intense, super rapid and hilarious. In fact that's what the game is. Matches can last anything from 30 seconds to 10 minutes or more depending on how evenly matched the players are.

Nidhogg has a tournament mode too, so you can have up to eight people competing to be numero uno.

It's a little bit sparse on content but it makes up for that by being super fun with friends. Here's a link to the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm42R6Vz438

I'd go for Helldivers. D3 is great, but Helldivers I think is far more accessible.

Starwhal is good, stupid fun. It has the potential to be entertaining for at least a couple of sessions, and it's fairly cheap.

The Pinball Arcade is great for multiplayer. Up to four can play and there are a large assortment of tables that you can get.

Four player split screen resistance was incredible crazy fun. and Resistance 2 was just as good. A pity insomniac got lazy. Fuze was utter crap.

CoD:BO3 can be played in local co-op across all modes - even a combination of Local and online. Lego games are also playable in Local co-op

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
