So played the beta, and let me add I have never played a Battlefield game before and my only real experience with modern FPS games are the CoD series mainly Black Ops 3 and Overwatch.

I will say I am not enjoying this one bit. I spend more time dead then anything else. For one thing it's just too huge of a scale coming from CoD. I understand it's suppose to be more realistic then CoD or Overwatch but my god there is just way to much going on for me to keep up with. I get more frustrated then anything.

I can appreciate it for what it is and what it's going for but yeah I guess this isn't the game for me. Might get it and just watch my son play it.

@tasuki Its rare gamers like both COD and Battlefield you are either one of the other. I keep trying COD but can never get into it. The new Battlefield will not win over many COD fans but think it will keep the Battlefield faithfull happy. The core gameplay is there with decent combat, roles, vehicles and large scale maps.

@get2sammyb You cursed me because later in the evening around 8pm when I tried logging back into Battlefield 1 I tried for 10 minutes and could not log on. Earlier in the day it was fine.

@Tasuki: yeah it's not for everyone. I understand that. I'd suggest maybe joining a squad of buddies if you haven't already. Communicate over mic and you'll be surprised how much better the game works and flows. Especially death counts. There's definitely a learning curve for any cod players trying it out for the first time. But as I say, just make use of a squad for spawning and working together etc, spam that R1 button to mark enemies for your team (very handy) and you should get on a little better.

@dryrain: I actually like both CoD and BF games. I tend to play Battlefield more when I have friends online although I will play solo but mainly stick to the TDM mode more so. I prefer to play Rush, Conquest etc with friends. My one criticism of Battlefield is that it can be very one sided. BF1 may address that with the lack of Helicopters and better vehicular spawns. In previous games, if you don't have a decent helicopter pilot but the Enemy do, it can get very one sided - they just sit above your home spawn and take out all your vehicles before anyone can actually get in them leaving their team with air and ground vehicle domination.

Despite the size of the maps, one of the best experiences I had was a 1v1 on BF3. It was a TDM map (so no vehicles) but still very large for a 1v1 but that got very exciting and quite tense. CoD for me is just more 'fun' and easier to play when playing Solo. That doesn't mean that CoD doesn't have tactical play or team-work but its easier when you have smaller maps and fewer objectives. With only 3 domination points for example on smaller maps, its easier to either defend or attack with a team of randoms. In BF with 5 Domination type points, large maps etc, you need more communication to co-ordinate which point to attack or whether you are defending one of your own points. Clan wars and eSports prove that CoD has great tactical play and good communication and co-ordination can beat a team of 'great' players that are not in a team. Battlefield though is better in squads with friends than playing Solo - at least that's how I feel.

CoD though is a better all-round package for me. I prefer CoD's Campaigns in general - even the worst ones are more fun than most of BF's - as far as I am concerned, the last Battlefield campaign worth playing was BF2BC. CoD also has a decent co-op range of activities like Zombies. BF3's co-op felt tacked on and forced you to play just to unlock certain MP weapons - I can't recall if BF4 had a co-op option, I think not if memory serves. MP though can be a very close call between each and often changes depending on my mood at the time. I have had many great times on both but they are different and offer a different experience. I know they have 'similarities', even similar modes but they feel very different to me. I think of CoD asbeing the more fast paced, arcade and 'fun' shooter with a military backdrop where as Battlefield is the more military 'simulation' based 'serious' shooter. To compare these 2, is like comparing F1 or GT to Burnout or NFS because they all have cars and racing...

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

Is there a way to switch classes? Probably easy sorry, just haven't figured it out yet.

@Elodin: when you get into the game. There should be an option when you die. Bottom center of the screen. L1 and R1 to switch

What I have learned so far. There are a lot of bad drivers who get me killed. I cannot fly planes. The first time I tried all i did was hit the ground. Riding on the horse and killing people with your sword is a lot of fun. Snipers love killing me I must wear a bit target on my back for them to aim at. This game is has great scenery and is a lot of fun to play. All my experiences so far have convinced me to buy this game and can not wait for it to come out later this year.

Clocked up about 5 hours play. Im mostly getting owned (by damn snipers) but I have improved a little. Never played COD online & only briefly played BF:HL online.
Like what I have played & would enjoy it more with a team of players working together instead of a load of crazy people just running around randomly.
Anyone going to set up a Push Square BF1 clan?

@dryrain: second your bad driver statement. Had a 2/3 full armored car and the driver only used his gun at the front. Half the time myself and others were staring at a rock wall or I'd be shooting at someone and the driver would turn so he could shoot at them. Very frustrating. On the plus side of the game I did like the glint off of another snipers sights when trying to snipe him back. Unfortunately he won that exchange.

@elodin I just started playing the sniper role its satisfying tracking your prey and picking them off. Or when you are heading to one of the flags and you see the glint from the sniper knowing he could pick you off kind of adds drama to the game.

Question for anyone who plays battlefield. Apart from squad mates is there any way to get more ammo?

Got a bit more time with the beta and the biggest thing I need to do is just slow down. However if this game does rely on teamates then I will probably pass on it. The game is beautiful and I love the setting, but no one I knows will be playing this game on PS4 so I will probably just pass on it.

@daveofduncan: Yeah, unfortunately that doesn't help me. Most of the people here are in England or in that area at least and it's an 8 hour time difference for me. Meaning when you people are just getting up for the day I am going to bed and when and when guys are getting home for the evening I am usually just starting work.

I'm enjoying this quite a bit (in particular dynamiting the ground and hiding in the foxholes) but I feel like they could've chosen a better map for the beta - I understand that WW1 did take place in the desert, but I could name about a million other shooters that take place in the desert. They probably should've chosen a trench-based map in France to really show off the WW1 setting, but ah well.

Also the marketing for the game makes me a little uncomfortable. They seem to be making WW1 out as THE COOLEST WAR OF ALL TIME instead of being a little more respectful - the abundance of gas grenades just seems a little much for me, but that's my problem I guess.

I haven't properly gotten into a multiplayer shooter since Battlefield Bad Company 2 (although Overwatch is lots of fun). Back then I used to be fairly good at shooters and was usually in the top half of the table.

Battlefield 1 just reminds me of how much I now suck at shooters! I think it looks amazing, the map is really cool (love the sand storms), and there's plenty of variety in weapons and vehicles etc.

The problem is, I'm not really having fun because I'm basically useless Maybe playing with friends would be better, but at the moment, I feel like if I want to get the most out of Battlefield 1 (or any other FPS) I'd need to commit to it completely, and build my skill back up. Right now I don't think I have the time to do that, and it's simply not fun being picked off constantly by snipers, so I'll probably give it a pass.

Can definitely see the quality here, though - I think a lot of people will enjoy this for a long time
