This is a good topic!

PS1:
Suikoden II - Not sure it's underrated as such, most people speak highly of it. It's just that not too many people have played it.
Unholy War - 1v1 battling on a tiny square of land, I think there was a velociraptor in it. Did anyone else ever play this? Did I dream it?
No-one Can Stop Mr Domino - I definitely didn't dream this. Not even in my wildest, drug-fuelled nightmares could I come up with this.
Micro Maniacs - The early Micro Machines games were the best, but I got a lot of fun out of it.
Wild Arms - Another great RPG. I seem to remember it let you name the magic spells yourself.

Other:
Alien Soldier (Megadrive) - Boss run. Rock hard. Kind of feels like an early Dark Souls, looking back.
Keio Flying Squadron (Saturn) - Loved this, although I don't remember too much about it now...
Baku Baku Animal (Saturn) - What a game, the most fun I've had with zoo animals for sure.
The Misadventures Of Flink (Megadrive) - A platformer where you played as a wizard-in-training, but none of his spells would ever work.
Pop'n'Twinbee (SNES) - My mate had a SNES and we tended to go for the better-known games (your Marios and Zeldas) but we got this from the rental shop once when they had nothing else in and ended up borrowing it a million more times after that.

@Ralizah word up for Jade Cocoon

@johncalmc to be fair, going grave-robbing without a Bible is a schoolboy error.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

I enjoyed Unholy War so much, I completed it on the hard difficulty, the campaigns were a lot of fun. There really was no other game like it. Had some very memorable characters and ablilities.

@Kidfried

Totally agreed on Furi. I abandoned it for ages as it was so hard. Then eventually came back, something clicked that clearly hadn't previously and I beat the game, brilliant fun. I now have it as my PSN avatar. Tearing a smug boss to shreds in quick time is immensely satisfying.

Hmm off the top of my head...

Alien 3 on the SNES - really atmospheric and good controls. Loved it.

Wing Commander Prophecy - loved this bad boy on PC.

Stories: Path of Destinies - I really liked this little game, even if it had some performance glitches.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

@LieutenantFatman It was great! I liked the silver guy on the hoverbike thing. The only other game I can think of to compare it to is Virtual On on the Saturn, but it's not a great comparison.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@Rudy_Manchego I tried Stories recently, but I just couldn't stand the narrator and writing. All felt a bit too cliche unfortunately. Glad you liked it, though.

@Kidfried Speaking as an annoyingly voiced english speaker, I liked it and I am insulted you didn't feel the same.

Only kidding, I completely get that its a mechanic that you either love or hate. I liked the writing as if you followed lots of paths, you saw more of the characters.

Ok I've had a longer think whilst I'm on a very brief holiday from life;

Chiki chiki boys - Megadrive
No idea how this wasn't rated 90+ back in the day. It's a mini masterpiece and perfectly formed.

Statik - PSVR
The most immersive game I have ever played. I was actually there.

Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours - PS Vita
Great gameplay with 1000+ shoot em up levels all on handheld.

2064 Read Only Memories - PS4
Free on PSPlus and only 4 other people on my friends list bothered with it. It's a great adventure game with my favourite story out of all the games I have played this year.

I have chosen them all as they are habitually overlooked. If Sega or Capcom made chiki chiki boys it would have been an amazing series like mario. If Statik was made by valve it would be up there with portal. If Dariusburst was made 10 years ago it would have been heralded as an ikaruga beater. 2064 ROM is a classy throwback with loads of Easter eggs from old 8 and 16 bit games Hacker, Aliens the Amstrad version and Snatcher.

I think I've mentioned games like The Order: 1886 and Asura's Wrath before so I'm going to include Final Fantasy XIV. People are giving it a pass mainly because it's a subscription base game.:/ I've played four Final Fantasy games so far and XIV is honestly my favourite.

Huntin' monsters erryday.

@themcnoisy I'm definitely going to play 2064 ROM soon on my Vita, but I'm currently still taking my time wrapping up Persona 4 Golden.

@JJ-firl P4G is great. Then again everything is great at your Junes.

2064 ROM is a boss pixel art adventure game. Going from your avatar it's a throwback to point and click adventure games like hotline Miami was to Alien Breed and Gauntlet. It will take approximately 6 hours to play through on your first go and maybe 2 hours if you go for another run.

Singularity. Loved that game last gen. It was kinda a mash of BioShock and Half Life. Had some awesome crazy weapons, one I seem to remember that allowed you to aim the bullets round corners and stuff. The main gameplay element was that you could mess with time. Kinda like that level in Titanfall 2. Great game.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

@themcnoisy I hear they have a wide range of premium kotatsus on offer!

Looking forward to 2064 ROM. I like the underlying theme of AI, Body enhancements etc. and the ethical implications. That's what I liked about VA-11 HALL-A but this seems, despite the heavy story a bit more light-hearted (?). I tried not to read much about it and go in as blind as possible.
