@Hego Nice man! I'm starting to wrap up the last chapter as well, I think I fought the final boss just now and I'm on the day when Class VII will be performing their concert, so I should be nearing the end soon as well. I'm almost reaching the 80 hour mark now which is crazy considering I started playing the game just a few weeks ago.

And yeah, I would also easily put this on my top five favourite games of all time. It may not perhaps be my favourite JRPG ever (that spot goes to P4G) but it's one of the best games I've ever played. Great story, great characters, amazing world-building and universe as well as lore, the dungeon-crawling is spot on with no overly long dungeons and the gameplay is so intricate but so much fun because of that.

I'm also intrigued by everyone mentioning this dark twist at the end of the game, so I'll be looking forward to seeing that. Already got the second game lined up so I'll be jumping into that immediately afterwards.

@KratosMD You've still got another dungeon to tackle. Sorry my browser jumped and I accidentally ignored your account, hopefully one of the admins will be able to fix that shortly.

Edit: The issue's been fixed! @Tasuki thanks!

Oh wow, I just reached that dark plot twist you guys were talking about. Wow, even though I was expecting that something would happen, I never thought that would happen.

Also, who did you guys decide to dance with? I wanted to choose Alisa because she is obviously the "canon girlfriend" for Rean, but I ultimately decided for Laura because she is so much more mature in comparison to Alisa. Rean is that typical guy that is oblivious when girls approach him in an intimate way, so I thought Laura would be a perfect fit since she doesn't seem THAT into Rean. Alisa felt more like a stalker at the end of the game, especially when she starts glaring at Rean when he's talking to some girls.

Also, both Rean and Laura are so alike in terms of their nobility, swordsmanship and looks. Perfect couple! I'm so glad that choices carry over to the next game. I wonder how they will utilise that feature there. Oh well, I'm on the last day now so I've gotta just push through these final hours.

@KratosMD I chose Emma, thought she was a good fit personally, both have mysterious backgrounds and Emma takes a special interest in Rean, particularly more towards the end, they seemed to get closer to each other as the story went on. BTW, not sure if this is spoilerish or not but what's the story with Rean and Elise? Is it spoilerish to discuss their relationship?

P.S. how did you guys put in those spoieler black out lines? Could do with learning those

@Hego I don't think the relationship itself is a spoiler, but I believe their background is? We don't know much about Rean and how he came to be adopted by Baron Schwarzer, but I know that they've talked about their relationship in the game. Rean didn't feel like he fitted in the family because of the fact that he is adopted and thus, he wanted to get away from them and find himself, which is why he attended Thors. He and Elise have a good relationship but he didn't realise how much she and the family in general care for him. I think they brought this up during the chapter when Elise got lost in the old schoolhouse during her visit at Thors.

And yeah, I think Emma is a good choice as well, this game didn't exactly talk much about her and her family. I don't think we visited her hometown at all? Hope we can get to learn more about her in the next game.

Also, if you want to use the spoiler lines then just write [ spoiler ]text[ /spoiler ] without the space between the words and brackets.

@KratosMD Thanks for the help, what I wanted to ask was Does Elise fancy Rean or something? Lots of the characters seem to hint at this even though though their (adopted) brother and sister which seemed a bit weird to me, I really though that by the end of the game, Rean would reveal that he was in love with Elise which is why he was so oblivious to the attractions of the other girls and this would explain why Elise was always going red around Rean

Yay I did it!! messed it up the first time though

@Hego I think that the fact that Elise blushes around Rean so much is due to Rean always embarrassing her by being so polite and the acting like the "typical big brother" that always looks out for her. I know what you're talking about though, Princess Alfin seems to hint a lot that Elise should keep Rean closer to her, but I just think that's a joke between them two. Otherwise, it would be kinda weird I agree.

Reanfan7

@KratosMD Read at your own risk! Be prepared for all kinds of weirdness in part 2 then!

Again read at your own risk! Though to be fair it's totally one-sided and Rean is completely oblivious of his adopted sister's feelings towards him!

Alright, I just finished this game. What an ending! What an amazing game in general! From the start of the game, I had no idea what I would get myself into. This adventure has just been unreal, the level of quality in the story is mind-shattering for me. I've not played a game where I've been this immersed since P4G. And that ending man, I don't think I've experienced such an ending on that level of excitement that I had. The music sure made this game so much better as well.

Also, WHYYYYYY CROW?! Such a heartbreaking moment I gotta love though the fact that whoever you choose to dance with during the festival will have additional dialogue with you during the ending.
Laura's speech to me was so heartwarming.

God, the Vita just keep pumping out games that become instant favourites for me. Now it's time to continue the story in the second game!

KratosMD

Hego

Ya the Crow twist really blind-sided me, DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!! Also the introduction of the Gundam mechanic was pretty cool too
Completely agree with how great the story is, easily one of the best stories I've viewed in a game, really felt like a great page turner novel in that I just couldn't wait to see what was next!
Have you played Trails in the Sky Kratos? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on that, you too Reanfan7, don't know anyone else who's played it thought that game was brilliant as well, had a great story and villains to it in particular

Also that music is pretty great in the game, particularly loved the battle music in the last dungeon and the festival music

Sounds like it stays in the same vein then, would have liked it to have been cleared up though @Reanfan7

@Hego No, I haven't played Trails in the Sky. I'd love to though, but the first game has apparently been removed from the PS Store and only the second chapter is available there. Not to mention that the third chapter wasn't even released here in the West, so I don't really know if it's worth playing through that trilogy. But I've heard amazing things about it and apparently Trails of Cold Steel references a lot of stuff from that trilogy because they take place on the same continent. I actually love the fact that this series is a lot like the Elder Scrolls games in which they all take place on the same continent, just in different countries. Trails in the Sky took place in Liberl I believe, which has been mentioned a lot in Trails of Cold Steel as the place Prince Olivert liberated a couple of years back. It wouldn't surprise me if Olivert actually showed up in those games. What did actually surprise me however is that the story of Trails in the Sky is about the Erebonian Empire invading Liberl, which is crazy because that would mean that Erebonia are the bad guys in that game and we're "playing" as the bad guys in Trails of Cold Steel.

I also heard about some other games that have only been released in Japan that take place in Crossbell, which would be interesting see. I do hope that they make a trilogy where the story takes place in Calvard. I don't think they've used that setting yet in the series? I'm still interested though in seeing how the third game in the Trails of Cold Steel saga will be because apparently it takes place quite some time after the second one, so it isn't really a direct sequel time-wise.

I've actually started playing the second Cold Steel game now and it's starting up wonderfully. Love, love, LOVE that the game is like Mass Effect in which if you have a save file on the system of the previous game, a lot of choices and events that happened there will carry over in the second game.

Reanfan7

@Hego I would get it, but the first volume isn't available on PSN and I'm not willing to pay $150+ for a physical version of the game...

@KratosMD There's actually a chapter in ToCS II where you'll "see" characters from the Trails in The Sky games.

@Reanfan7 Ah, interesting. I read that they would bring back characters from that saga in the third Cold Steel game but I didn't know they did that as well for the second.

I've gotta say though, after playing the second game for a couple of hours, its beginning feels much better than the first game's. It throws you right in the story and the action rather than developing it for a long time like in the first game. It's actually quite possible that the second game might be even better than the first.

And also @Reanfan7, I see now what you mean with Rean's and Elise's relationship becoming more obvious in the second game. Just got done with the hot spring scene. I've never felt such awkwardness in these games until that moment, lol.

KratosMD

Hego

Ya second game is looking the better game so far, I love how you can now skip to the quest givers once you've finished a quest rather than having to walk all the way back found that a minor annoyance in the last game, I think the use of Valimar is well done too, used sparingly enough that it's exciting to use

The First Trails in the Sky game is available on Steam for PC now I believe, I honestly say it's worth checking out, any old laptop should be able to run it
That sucks that it's been removed on PSN, makes no sense when their keeping the second chapter on there :/

Also pro-tip for those of you trying to earn the platinum trophy for both Trails of Cold Steel games. Scan every enemy using a Battle Scope or Eliot or Emma's Detector skills as there's a trophy for scanning every enemy including bosses and one-shot sidequest and school/guild quest monsters.

Also do NOT sell any of the books you find as there's a trophy for collecting all of those as well.
