Topic: Buying a PS3 (Again). Any gems I've missed?

My PS3 died a few years ago, leaving behind a good chunk of games with no console to play them on.
As I'm buying a PS3 again, I've thought about some of the games I may have missed last gen.
Here's my collection (leaving out yearly sports games):

Assassin's Creed 1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 3, 4, Rogue
Batman Arkham City, Asylum, Origins
Bayonetta
Bioshock 1, 2, Infinite
Borderlands 1, Pre-Sequel, 2
Darksiders 1, 2
Dark Souls 1, 2
Disgaea 3, 4
Dishonored
Dragon Ball Raging Blast 1, 2, (Xenoverse)
Far Cry 3, 4
Final Fantasy 13, 13-2, Lightning Returns
God of War Ascension, Collection, 3
GTA 4, 5
Heavy Rain
Infamous 1, 2
Kingdom Hearts 1.5, 2.5
Naruto UNS 1, 2, 3
Ni No Kuni Wrath of The White Witch
Persona 4 Arena, Ultimax
Rayman Origins
Red Dead Redemption
Resident Evil 6
Sleeping Dogs
Skyrim
Split/Second
Sonic Generations
South Park The Stick of Truth
The Evil Within
The Last of Us
Tomb Raider
Uncharted 1, 2, 3

I'm already picking up MGS 4 (the reason I'm buying a PS3) and I'll get Nier as well.
Also from the current Easter Sale I picked up:

Beyond Good and Evil HD, Deus Ex HR, Dead Space 1+2 and the Mass Effect Trilogy for <£19 .

Any glaring omissions? PS3 only please. Thanks!

Resident Evil 5 is considerably better than 6 by all accounts.
Also Xcom Enemy WIthin is worth a look as is Valkyria Chronicles although there is a remaster for the latter on PS4.

Wesker

Spec Ops: The Line
Killzone 2 and 3
Resistance 2 and 3

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning. Fab RPG with some very decent, fun combat and an epic (my playtime was around 120 hours) story full of lore. I'd love to play this again as a remaster but sadly it'll never happen.

That's a lotta games! Any type of game in particular you like? I could recommend lotsa stuff, but if THAT'S your backlog...you've got some prioritizing to do!

For what you already have, I absolutely love the Mass Effect Trilogy and Final Fantasy XIII trilogy (my two favorite game series from last gen, hands down), so have fun with those! On a related note, you may want to also look into Dragon Age 1 + 2 (the first one runs pretty bad on PS3, so I would actually recommend you go straight to the second one).

Make it a great day!

Demon's Souls!

Valkyria Chronicles (it's on ps4 too now though)
Nier maybe? It looks terrible and it plays so-so but it has a nice story.
Dragon age Origins + Awakening and I'd also recommend DA2, it has a bed rep but it really is a spinoff on the that gives you a lot of insight on the war between mages and templars.

The Sly Collection for some great platformers with excellent stories.
Prince of Persia (the reboot) has a great cel-shaded art style that’s aged well, good gameplay, and an excellent story with some of the best characters after banter I’ve seen, and so much of it.
Atelier: Escha and Logy is an excelllent JRPG that based around alchemy.
Transformers: War for Cybertrona and Fall of Cybertron are some really good third person shooter Transformer games.
I really liked Dark Void back in the day, it’s a TPS with a jetpack. Don’t know how it’ll stand up today though.
Comet Crash is an awesome tower defense game on PSN. I’m not much of a tower defense person, but I really liked it and you’re attacking someone’s tower while def ending yours.

@Feena How does Nier look terrible? I'd understand if you said it looks average visually, but terrible? I've seen tons of PS3 games that are REALLY fugly and Nier ain't one of them.

There have already been some great recommendations. Most of the ones I was thinking of have been mentioned (an extra shout out to Vanquish, Pupeteer, FFXIII, and Kingdoms of Amalur). Also leaving out any PS3 games that have comparable and usually superior version on PS4 (such as Dragons Dogma or Brothers for example), only the following come to mind that could be added to what has been said:

Enslaved: An Odyssey to the West -
Most agree this is under appreciated. An action platformer with smooth gameplay, an interesting dystopian/futuristic setting, endearing characters, and decent story.
Portal 2 - If you didn’t play this on PC, it’s a gem. Get it for your PS3 now.
Folklore - a really cool 3rd person action rpg that has been largely forgotten. It came out super early in the PS3’s life, and was quickly overshadowed by other games. I’m not sure you can even find a copy of it very easily, but it is really quite good. A fantastical dream-like setting is the star of the show, I don’t remember much about the characters or story. It’s a little bit creepy, but more like a children’s fantasy book would be creepy, not like a horror game. It’s hard to explain, but I remember liking it.

@kyleforrester87 Heard good things about Vanquish. Will add it to the list.
Not sure about Max Payne 3, will have to look up that one. I borrowed Dead Space from a friend years ago, but I quickly lost interest. I was very much in the PS4 boat at that time though so that probably played into that.

@LieutenantFatman I picked up Xcom 2 a couple of months ago on sale for PS4. Would you recommend the first game over it? Heard there isn't much of a story.
I'm hoping to pick up all the remastered Resi games eventually on PS4. I think they maybe bundled eventually, rather than being sold standalone.

@Wesker Killzone & Resistance have been added to the list. Thanks!

@KratosMD Last gen, especially from a PlayStation standpoint often is underappreciated. The PS3 may not have been as successful as other PlayStation consoles, but that doesn't make it a failure. The PS3 has some of my favorite games of all time and gave birth to Uncharted my favorite franchise of all time (well alongside Kingdom Hearts ).
I knew someone would bring up Demon Souls! I personally think that game is bound to get the remake/remaster treatment soon enough. If it isn't announced by PSX2018, I'll pick it up. @Octane

I owe a bunch of these games on Vita already, but I'll be adding Heavenly Sword and Puppeteer to the list! Going to wait for Yakuza 3-5 .

@NoCode23 I'll have to look up Rage & Saboteur. Not heard of those before. I'll get Mafia 2- it's currently on sale for ~£6.

@ApostateMage I'll keep an eye out for Kingdoms of Amalur. Heard the name thrown around before, but never actually seen the game in store & it's not currently on sale.

@smelly_jr I love FFXIII ! All of it- the entire trilogy. I have no problem in saying that is my favorite mainline Final Fantasy. I think it's probably because I prefer linear over open world games. Loved the characters and story. Fang rules!
Loved Dragon Age Origins. Played it on PC, hence why it's not here. Not played DA2, but after Inquisition I'm kind of down on Dragon Age. My gaming tastes are kind of all over the place. Willing to give anything a try really.

@Feena Got Valkyria Chronicles on PS4. Picking up Nier as I really enjoyed NieR Automata. Already own DA Origins on PC. Thanks!

@Jaz007 Adding Prince of Persia reboot. Thanks!

@Th3solution Enslaved and Portal 2! Never got around to these two for some reason. Seen a lets play of Folklore once and didn't really enjoy it.

Thanks a lot everyone! Think I've got enough to go on here!

@ReanSchwarzer7 it was by far the worst looking game I played to completion on PS3. It looks like a ps2 remaster done wrong but has other qualities. I am sure there might be worse looking games on ps3 but nothing I'd recommend 😉😄

@Fight_Teza_Fight Xcom games' story have never really been their strongest suit. Although the world you play in is quite a cool one. But it's more about customising your soldiers to make them your own, desperately trying to keep said soldiers alive, base & resource management. And of course plenty of tactical / strategic game play. I guess it depends how much Xcom you want, they are quite different beasts. Xcom 2 is arguably the better game.

PS_Nation

KratosMD already mentioned all the games I would recommend, lol. But I will double down some recommendations:

Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction/ A Crack in Time/ Into the Nexus (there is also Quest for Booty on PSN)
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
Demon's Souls (like you said, maybe it's coming to PS4)
ICO and Shadow of the Colossus collection (because of ICO)
Puppeteer
Sly Cooper Collection
Jak and Daxter Collection
Alice: Madness Returns (there is also a free version of the first game)
Beyond Two Souls
Resistance trilogy
Killzone 2 and 3
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Tales of Symphonia
Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare
Catherine (not sure, but maybe it's coming to PS4)
Star Wars Force Unleashed 1 and 2

You bought great games on the sale, Beyond Good & Evil is one of my favorite games ever.
If I remember more, I will post here.

@ApostateMage I still need to play Kingdoms of Amalur, many players like you enjoyed it. The studio doesn't exist anymore, right? That's why the remaster will never happen.

ApostateMage

@PS_Nation Yeah it's a shame that 38 Studios went bankrupt because KOA Reckoning really was a good game and I would have loved a sequel or even a remaster. I'd play through it again but I sold all my PS3 games recently.
