Topic: Best fighter on PS3?

What do you think is the best fighter on PS3? Personally I would have to say Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. But admittedly, I've not played all the fighters on PS3 and nor do I have a fighting stick, which is a huge advantage for some fighting games. MvC3 plays very well with the DualShock and I have no problem pulling off he special moves.

Anyway would you agree that Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is the best? If not, what is your nomination?

MvC3 never grabbed me, whereas I love and adore Tatsunoko vs. Capcom on Wii. It was over-the-top silly and I really like that about it.

I'm going to say Virtua Fighter 5 is the best, even though I play it on 360 because it's version C not version B. After that it's Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, then Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition. I like technical fighters.

I am very excited about VF5 Final Showdown and predict that will be the best fighting game on PS3 by some considerable margin.

It depends on what style fighter you are in my opinion. To me, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 feels like a button masher. I keep trying to enjoy it, but I just can't as it feels to "dumbed down" or something. I've only played virtua fighter 5 for a couple of hours but I felt that Street Fighter X Tekken was a better title. It felt more smooth, balanced, and technical (which might be a bad thing if you aren't a hardcore fan). My only complaint is the lack of a 1v1 mode.

To me Mortal Kombat 9 is the most complete fighter this gen, so I'll go with that game, though Super SF IV and SF X Tekken are right at the top as well.

SFxTK more smooth, balanced and technical than Virtua Fighter 5? Nathan, I gotta have some of what you're smoking, man.

The next fighter I'm really excited about is Skullgirls. Got the chance to try it recently and it really impressed me. One to watch!

I will Second Mortal Kombat 9. Kratos is in the game so what more can you ask for?

Hmmmm this is a good question; I suck at SSF IV but loved when I played with friends. MK 9 is good but can get boring. MVC3 is fast but too button mashy for myself.

I really wished I've played virtua fighter 5 and Tekken 5 & 6.

I cannot wait for DOA 5 to come this year!

Supposedly we were going to hear about that Sony Smash Bros. a month or so ago but it didn't happen. Perhaps we'll see it at E3...

Still won't be as good as Virtua Fighter, though.

Tekken 6 is the best

I would suggest you need to play a lot more fighting games

Anyways, the best right now is easily King of Fighters XIII, followed by Blazblue: Continuum Shift II (albeit there's a very wide margin between the two). The best is soon to be Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, though.

On a slight tangent - Are there any fighters where you actually fight in 3D?

There are many that render the world in 3D but the fighting is still 2D like Virtua Fighter. It just changes the camera angle occasionally to give you the illusion.

Are there any where you control the camera and actually get to walk around the 3D arena and use the space?

Ginkgo -- you've been able to move around the 3D space in Virtua Fighter since VF3 added an Evade button. You can tap up or down to step away from or toward the camera, circling your opponent and evading moves.

SoulCalibur introduced an eight-way movement system that works similarly -- you can move around the arena instead of just closer to and further away from your opponent.

However a sort of "lock" on your opponent exists in all major 3D fighting games (as far as I'm aware) just to make it easier to hit people

Thanks James - An evade button is not quite what I was looking for, but it is certainly a step in the right direction. SoulCalibur sounds the closest, but still not complete freedom of movement.

I understand that the "lock" on idea makes it easier to hit people, but fighting games have worked this way since the 80s. I haven't played one in ages, and was just wondering if anyone had made the leap into 3D movement. Apparently, kindof...
