Topic: Action RPG recommendations?

I really like games like Ni No Kuni and Kingdom Hearts. I really like the aspects of leveling up, and gaining new powers as a result. I also tend to like more whimsical & fantastical types but I'm also open to more serious games. I kind of liked Skyrim, finished it, but I wasn't too pulled in by the design & repetitiveness of the missions. The Witcher games came up a few times but I'm looking at gameplays & it doesn't seem that interesting to me. So any type of recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

If you haven't played them already I highly suggest the Borderlands games mainly 2 and Presequel.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is definitely one I'd recommend. Also, the Mass Effect trilogy if you haven't played those.

Bordlands is fantastic, but obviously leaning towards the shooter variety. Destiny is more sewious but in that category too.

Diablo III is still a fantastic action RPG, hard to ignore.

Also, you can't talk about Action RPGs without mentioning Dark Souls and Bloodborne, which are beyond amazing, though dark and lacking obvious story instead of fun and whimsical. They have a reputation for being extremely difficult but are really quite approachable.

I was in this boat a few weeks ago, until I got Final Fantasy XV for Christmas. It's incredible and extremely fun.

Out of games not mentioned I would say Dragon's Dogma and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning. If we are talking just combat those two are top notch.

Have you tried the Tales series? It's a popular series of JRPGs known for its stories, characterisation, and real-time battle system which plays a bit like a fighting game with RPG elements. From that series I'd recommend Tales of Symphonia (originally on the Gamecube, but remastered for PS3 and Steam).

At least 2'8".

If you have a PS4, FFXV is hard to not recommend if KIngdom Hearts is the exemplar. Both Square-Enix, both handle combat very similarly with the main toon and npcs following - though obviously FFXV is more mature/refined in its mechanics due purely to time.

Ok guys this is in the PS3 section so I am guessing the OP is looking for PS3 suggestions so let's keep it to PS3 games.

The Witcher 3.

Seriously, consider it.

Ok since everyone just wants to suggestions. PS4 games when this is clearly in the PS3 section I am going to end it now since this is turning into a PS4 recommendation thread which we already have.

Thanks for understanding.
