This is interesting. I haven’t really come across this list on the site before, but I browsed over there to look at it after I read this. I’m guessing this is created using the scores given to the games under our user profiles in the ‘games collection’ section. I hadn’t realized that information was gathered in this way. That’s pretty cool.
A few observations— first off, user rating are going to be inherently subjective to personal experience and preference, obviously. So there will always be strange instances where fanboyism creeps in, or undeserving hatred for a game makes someone rate it low to spite it. Also, the act of just clicking on a score doesn’t even in any way validate that the person has even played the game to begin with. I could click on FFXV and give it a 10/10 right now even though I have never played the game. And finally, in my browsing and snooping about on people’s user profiles to browse their game lists, I find that many pepole, even some of the most active users, haven’t even created a game collection or taken the time to rate their games. (Which is fine by the way, this isn’t a criticism. There is no expected requirement of such to use the site. Push Square is a service created for the players, not the other way around. If people don’t want to rate their games, so be it.)
So with that boring introduction aside, the things that stick out to me are :
*Rayman Origins ... that high? Really? Guess I should get around to playing it if it’s the second best game of all time.
*FFVII > FFVIII in most of these kinds of lists, so interesting that PS has more love for Squall and co. over Cloud and Tifa’s classic game
*Dead Space2 and Resistance 3 also seem pretty out of place to be on a highest rated list. Didn’t play either so hard to pass judgement, but better than Witcher 3 and Uncharted 2?
*A couple of the DLC’s are higher ranked than the actual game in Bloodborne and Witcher 3. That’s curious.
*Surprised Horizon ZD is not higher. Many people think it is the best game of this generation. Our list would say AC: O holds that distinction, as the other PS4 games high in the list are remakes of prior gen titles. (TLOU, FFXII, etc)

Otherwise, the list seems pretty good. These are all excellent games I think.

@KratosMD There should be a bar at the top where you can go to “games”, and then to “top rated”

Edit — you can filter the list by year, score, system, etc. which is pretty cool too.

I actually think the games and scores right now are truer than they will be post this thread. You need to have the game in your collection before you can vote, I think thats why we see some dlcs higher than the game. I have zero affinity to either bloodborne or witcher 3, so Im possibly part of the reason they are down the list - yet peeps who liked the game and played the dlc have all scored them highly.

Rayman Origins is the best 2d platform game on playstation.

@themcnoisy Good point. Although I have added games to my collection when I bought them and added them to my backlog but yet haven’t played them yet (FFXV is one of those) Then I got lazy and haven’t added many of my purchases lately. But I have refrained from rating the games until I have played at least part of the game. The other beauty of the system is that you can change your score at any time, so one could play half of a game and give it one score, and then finish it and go back and give it a more accurate rating.
For example - If I rated Arkham Knight right now I’d probably give it a 6, but I only played 4 or 5 hours before I grew tired of it and moved on. I think based on what I’ve heard, if I stayed with it the score might go up.

Edit —
Another observation / question:
Do we have any idea if there is a minimum number of ratings that must be in the system before the game gets an average user rating? If there are only like 5 ratings on Reaistance 3 but they are mostly 10’s, that may explain it. I’m no statistician, but it would make sense that the higher the number of data entries, the more accurate the overall average will be. Small sample sizes will magnify bias.

I have added to my games collection before but not added any ratings. I will try and do so this week for giggles - at least for those I have properly played.

@Wesker I'm literally watching Clash of Champions right now, when I saw that sign pop up during Nakamura's entrance!! Thought you photo-shopped it XD .

I should probably add my games to collection with ratings. Think I'll do it on my next day off.

Can't really disagree with the list, although I enjoyed Rayman Legends more than Origins.
They are both excellent games though. Kind of surprised Ubi haven't made a new one yet.

Nice. I just rated a few games, good reminder that we can do that.

Well I'd better get rating then.

And yeah, Rayman Origins is pretty cool to be fair.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

I'm always surprised to see a Final Fantasy title not named VII being rated as the best. Especially if it's VIII. I still think a ton of people hate that game.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see Rayman Origins get rated that highly. I still love that game to bits.

Only game I'd personally disagree with is Last of Us, but it's not a "I hate this game and it dunt deserve good scores". I understand why people love it so much.

Everything else is about what I'd expected. Some of those I haven't played though.

5 I believe is the minimum.

At the current low level of voting, an outlier could push or pull a game through the rankings. Where as with more scores that wouldnt be the case. So thats correct.

What Ive noticed though with more reviews comes what I call the above average effect. We all forget about the rubbish games we have played for 5 minutes yet will critique a game weve spent hours or days with. Lets be honest any game youve managed to play for a certain length of time has some connection with you so the scores end up being higher than they probably deserve. if everyone votes on every game they have ever played the scores would average lower.
