So I have been forced to watch the Fortnite World Cup. I'm glad my kids are so insistent as Its pretty good.

Props to the kid from Argentina 'King' his attacking playstyle is amazing. Dubs playing ultra defensive in his ball. Mongraal had a beast of a fourth round and UK favourite Benjifishy is sat in 12th currently.

Who would have thought a shooter could be such a good spectacle?

So Bhuga won. Great play in that last round. Dominating performance.

Honestly never knew this is how you play fortnite with close proximaty box fights, shadow bombs to run away and taking the high ground. Some of the favourites had a bad night with T fue looking like a T fool most of the time (although he looked decent in the last round maybe it was the nerves / pressure early on).

Most of the players are on PC though with the controller players being ranked way down, which again cements the fact mouse control is far and away better for these type of games.

Great show and will tune in next year for sure.

This made the BBC News Online, as well as a couple newspaper front pages. I genuinely find it odd that there's still a bit of snobbery around what is so obviously a popular game, and around eSports in general. Whilst they're not really my thing, I still quite like seeing them get attention befitting gaming's status as the most popular and most successful form of entertainment in today's world.

I'm glad you enjoyed watching the World Cup, @themcnoisy and I'm also glad it gave you something to share with your kids. That must've been cool, watching with them.

Thank you @RogerRoger I'm actually surprised there was no coverage here actually. I understand esport is a nonsense industry but this fortnite world Cup was spot on. Everyone had an equal chance of getting to the finals as it was one big tournament from qualifiers to the conclusion. Exactly how I always imagined it could be in the 80s.

Is this the one where a 16 year old won 3 million dollars?

@WanderingBullet that's correct. The figures involved are grotesque tbh. But that V bucks money needs to go somewhere.

@themcnoisy The lack of eSports coverage across gaming news in general is pretty shocking. Whilst I'd likely skip over most of the stories, there are obviously millions who wouldn't, and yet we're left with journalists complaining of "slow news weeks" and dreaming up click-bait headlines, or breaking down one story into three separate articles, right when these tournaments are ongoing.

And yeah, the figures are grotesque... but that just further defines it as a real sport, surely?

Given your enthusiastic reaction to the tournament, I may track down a condensed highlight compilation or something. Whenever I can't sleep I often stumble into similar videos of impressive gaming feats, so I'm curious to see some of these winning plays. Skill is skill, after all.

@themcnoisy Jeez, I think that's more money than Wimbledon's prize money for men's or women's singles.
