This is a question to all, what do you think about HD remasters and do you prefer Digital Games over Physical games?
And what do you think about HD Remasters? Think this new generation is over saturated?

In this generation, Digital games are the norm, and more and more games are going digital. What happens if the games get taken off the store? Imagine if you will, you just bought a game, Lets say Persona 4 Golden on Vita, or your favorite PS3/PS4 game, what may you. In the future when the next generation is out, the old system is phased out, or there's an issue with the company, like Konami and P.T., and the game you just bought or the old one you bought, is no longer available? I think i prefer there to be more physical releases even with indie games due to this issue.

The PS4 keeps getting HD Remaster games. Left and Right i see re-releases coming out for it. DMC, Devil May Cry 4, Dishonored, GTA V, etc. What do you think about this? I believe its fine as long as they give you a reason to rebuy it. Devil May Cry 4 is getting Vergil as a playable character and GTA V was pretty much made for PS4, made the PS3 version look like it was ported instead of being upgraded. But there are some games, that are re-released with just more frames, and thats it.

What do you think? Comment below! Thank You.

I won't get into the remasters thing again.

As far as digital vs. physical copies of games. I prefer physical copies for the home consoles, for Vita and 3DS, most of my games are digital. I'll make an exception here and there but digital is much more convenient for handheld systems.

Honestly it's gotten so much easier to go digital this generation. Generally my rule of thumb for buying online is, if it won't resell well or I think the game is weird, chances are most people will, and so I'd just put those on my console. Sports, racing, action and fighting games have value long after the games have been released and so I can feel comfortable reselling them, if need be.

I'll take the Vita to the grave with me, even if Sony won't.

Whilst I am happy there is a choice for gamers to go Digital if they want, I MUCH prefer Physical copies. I don't buy any media digitally given a choice whether that be games, music, video or books. I prefer having something physical to show for money, seeing my game collection grow on the shelf, opening the case and seeing the disc inside etc etc. I prefer Limited Editions where available and try to buy Steelbook versions (unless too expensive). I like having Art books or any other enclosed game related extras too - these things that you will never get by buying Digital. As a gamer for over 35years, I have lost or broken a disc, tape etc. I have never worried about having to swap discs to play a different game either. Physical also costs less and is an asset. If I ever chose (or had to) sell my console/game collection, a console with 20+ physical games is worth significantly more than a console with digital games on it.

As for Remastered games, I am sure there are games we all would love to play (Uncharted trilogy, Mass Effect trilogy, Rd Dead Redemption, Arkham Asylum/City, Gears of War trilogy etc are highly requested) on our Generation 8 consoles. Not everyone kept or owned a Generation 7 (or earlier) console - just because I have been gaming for 35+ years, others are very new to it. My son's first console was a Generation 7 and I bet there are some whose first is a generation 8. There are people who upgraded to the new consoles because of remasters like Diablo 3, GTAv as these games were constantly being played on their old consoles. In the case of 'exclusives', Some people are new to the console family. A lot of the PS4 owners had a XB360 and so missed out on Last of Us, God of War, Uncharted etc so remastering these allows newcomers to experience these. In some cases remastering allows developers to make the game they envisioned but had to compromise because of hardware constraints. Personally I prefer games to add 'extras' to the remaster rather than just a graphical makeover. Often they include all the DLC so it becomes more like a GotY edition. I also hope that these remasters are not at the expense of 'new' games. In reality though they are not as all the story and contents are already coded so only take a small team to work on the visual upgrades.

At the end of the day both of these things are a 'choice'. You have the option to buy Physical or Digital - you have the choice to buy remastered games or not.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

I don't think on it too much. I guess I'd rather have the big games I'm looking forward to in physical, but honestly I'm getting tierd of having to move house and hump around 20+ years worth of video games, the vast majority of which never get played. I mean dont get me wrong, I liked Red Faction 2 on PS2 and Overboard on PS1, but I don't see me sitting down to play through them any time soon...

I echo Gamer83's comment about physical games for consoles and digital for handheld. The reason why I stick with physical is because of hard drive space and price. Digital prices on PSN for a lot of games is too high in comparison to places like Steam for the same games. Plus physical games have a 2nd hand market which helps massively if you have a budget. As for remasters, it's very easy to say that there's too many but people need to look at it on a publisher by publisher basis. If the Dishonoured rumours are true then that will be Bethesda's first remaster this generation but people won't see it like that, they'll just see it as another remaster. It maybe a tired excuse but AAA gaming is incredibly expensive now but people expect new IP's or sequels but it isn't easy to fund these projects now. Let me ask you all this, what would you prefer? A remaster of a game that looks a bit better and runs a bit better or a new AAA game that's riddled with micro transactions or ridiculously priced season passes and DLC because the publisher is desperate to recoup the game's budget as quickly as possible.

I moved house about 2 years ago and ended up downsizing. I had to move quickly so threw away my Vic 20, Amstrad CPC464 etc and boxes and boxes of games (along with a whole lifetimes worth of other things like books, tapes - I kept my CD's, magazines, etc - I am a hoarder ) but didn't have the same storage options in my new house. I gave my son my N64 and games, accessories and my DSi too. I took with me my Original Xbox and games, Original PS3 (phat but has YLOD ), Original gameboy Colour and games. Since I bought my XB1 (my first Gen 8 console) I have not bought a game on gen 7. I have probably played less than 10hrs on either my 360 or PS3 combined. I have both my generation 7 consoles plugged in and set up in my bedroom on my 46" 1080p TV (which was replaced in my living room by my 55" 4K TV) but still haven't played on these.

Part of the reason is I have a backlog of games on this generation and would rather play these games than revisit or finish off the games on those consoles but I still can't get rid of them.

During the generation 7 era, I lost my PS3 to YLOD and replaced it with a Slim 320gb version and all the games I had were instantly playable without having to redownload etc. I swapped my original XB360 for an Elite and then again for a Slim with Kinect and all the games were instantly playable as I just transferred all save points, DLC etc across. All my games have outlasted all my consoles. If MS or Sony bring out better versions of their Generation 8 Consoles or something happens to the ones I have, Its a lot easier to have the Discs than to try and remember what games I have, find them and redownload everything inc DLC, patches etc. With the XB1, I can easily just plug in my External HDD too.

Physically will always win because of anti-privacy laws they could attempt to confiscate your property. After feeling like I live in USSR state of mind. Physical all the way. I feel like I am living in that movie 1984, where the man hides his notes inside the wall. That is the current state of mind.

In fact I believe the whole push for DLC material is because they want to find reason to confiscate your property. They do not want you to own anything at all unless it is physical and flat. Like having nothing from nothing to begin with.

DLC is garbage in most cases, unless you really enjoy something I would check it out. Take BG&E DLC HD version. I mean DO I EVEN HAVE THE 200" display to even see every particle in HD ( high resolution ). In fact for something to be HD it is just high resolution with more detail then popular. Look at Sonic-R for PC modification. You can now play the game in full HD, but otherwise a game like "Blade-Runner" or "Resident Evil" does not really change at all, no matter how much smoothing or resolution is applied.

My advice is to stick with physical no matter what, unless your into that Steam kind of stuff. I say that because eventually these people will drop support as with the NDS and PS2. In fact can you still go online with an PS2??? and play games online????

Here is another example of physical over DLC. This fighter, with all the girls they removed costumes and skins of various characters. With physical content that is impossible.

I wish they would just sell Hu-card for extra content, and not give us DLC.

I much prefer buying physical copies. Buying physical online undercuts ps store digital most, if not all, of the time. I remember reading that the ps store pricing strategy is in place so as not to undercut physical retailers. I'm not concerned about that. Of course, I am also concerned about services switching off and losing access to my games. A little tin-foil hat, but this is still an unproven service in this regard. What safeguards are in place?

In the future, I see streaming becoming more popular for a monthly subscription. I may be on board with this depending on the price. Value always wins out for me.

With regards to HD remasters, I see no problem with them. I buy what I missed the first time around, such as The Last of Us. Never played it on PS3 and is now my favourite game on PS4. I also missed Dishonoured, so I may pick up the "complete" version due out on PS4. I agree that resource allocation to remasters as opposed to new IPs/products is regressive if that is indeed the case.

HD Remasters? No problem whatsoever with them. I only get the ones I want, for whatever reason (not played before. have played before and loved it. etc).
Apparently there is a market for it, so why complain.
Well, for most titles anyway. Some titles clearly do it just for a quick buck (Prototype for example) and hopefully get burned for it.

And I will Always prefer physical, simply because I sell most of my games after I am done with them.
Some that are special to me, I keep, and will never sell.
Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7 & 8, Tales of Vesperia, Dragon Age, Mass Effect....those are games and series I will cherish for the rest of my life. They special.
But other games that I feel I will never play again, get sold. Can't do that with digital.

Digital on my Vita is really, really nice...and thanks to Plus I get an ever exanding library that I have excess to, but here I go physical as well, because of the above reason. Persona 4 G, Rayman Legends are the only 2 physical games so far that I will deffinitly keep....

That's not to say I don't enjoy the other games I play, I really do, but most games I don't see myself playing after beating it.
