Topic: What kind of content do you most want to see at Push Square?

We have our ideas thread, and that's great - but I wanted to create a spin-off on that to get some more focused feedback on what kind of content you want to read on Push Square. I don't ever want us to fall into a routine on this site, so I want to know what you want to know about. Do you want us to cover more retro stuff, for example? Would you like more guides? Are there any features you'd like to see? Do you want more interviews?

I want to know what kind of content would get you excited when you clicked on the homepage and saw it stickied at top of the page? What kind of content turns you off? What kind of things would you share with all your friends?

What, in your opinion, would make Push Square the best PlayStation website on the planet?

Thanks in advance for all your help and suggestions - we couldn't do any of this without you!

You should do live streams. James Newton used to do them over at NintendoLife and they were very popular. You can either play games or chat and answer questions. You have the functionality, so why don't you do it?

I think a monthly podcast would be great, I say monthly because I know trying to do a weekly one would be difficult to do for you guys. Or at least a podcast after a major event (E3, PSX etc) would be a great way off letting the staff put there thoughts out there a lot more. I wouldn't recommend doing a live podcast on Twitch or something because you may struggle to get a decent sized audience to contribute to the chat.

@Wesker: Thanks for the feedback. Do you think this sort of thing would need to be live, or are you asking for video content where we're more forward facing?

@adf86: We'll be doing a podcast at EGX next week, so this will be our second attempt at something like this. As for it becoming a regular feature, I have a few ideas on it.

Keep the feedback coming!

Wesker

@get2sammyb: Well it needs to be live so you can take questions from the chat. I would suggest starting off by simply doing a 45 minute Q&A and see where it goes from there.

Hmmm well some of the things I'm not interested in:

Guides (i'm not sure how much effort they take but unless you're ripping off content from elsewhere it must be quite alot! And since that content is going to be the same across all guides on the net, I'm not sure its worth putting the time and resources into when you could be working on original content. On the off chance I need a solution I'll just google it and pick the first link)
Videos (for the most part, I think it's just hard to come across well in videos.)
Podcasts (same issue with videos to a point, also I'm not sure when I'd dedicate the time to listening to any podcast of length. That said I've never much been into podcasts so what do i know!)
Livestreams (again, unless its covering a new release or an event such as E3 - which was great - I don't think I'd tune in. But it all depends on the subject, I suppose)

As you can tell I prefer text content At the end of the day my main reason to come here is for the latest gaming news in the world of PlayStation, so that should be your main focus (As I'm sure it is). Then to fill in the gaps I guess I'd like to see more retro stuff. I did enjoy the comedy articles Gamesradar used to put out a lot back in the mid to late 2000's, too.

Not sure if that helps at all really.

Kinda hard for me to answer since I'm ok with with the site, but I will say that I think the video content could be expanded a bit beyond just trailers. I understand that can hard to do without feeling too similar to other sites, though.

I think livestreams are a good idea, and a monthly or sporadic podcast doesn't sound too bad either.

@get2sammyb: That's cool, will have to check it out. I would have loved to have seen a podcast after this year's E3 considering what was announced

@iDangerMouse_: Thanks for the feedback.

@Wesker: Interesting. And you say James Newton used to do this? I didn't know that. Thanks for the feedback.

@kyleforrester87: Haha, fair enough. Don't worry, we'll always have the daily stream of news and features - these are core to the site.

@DerMeister: Thanks for the feedback.

The recurring theme appears to be personality-driven content. You want us to be more forward facing as an editorial outfit?

I really enjoy the news coverage and the reviews.

What I also enjoy and I think you could do more are interviews from developers, people that work on PR etc. Especially about developers it is good to read their opinions on videogames. Also the retro stuff you write sometimes is a good read.

Sometime ago you started a column about Japan with Kerry (I think). It would be good to see more from there too.

I'd also like to hear some podcasts come along. A few things I'd like to see more of are polls - these are always fun, but I think you should do a follow up with the results with these. More video content. Remember the one video about the WWE game where Ben teared into the career mode? I have no interest in WWE games, but I loved that video. (I just looked it up on youtube, and it has almost 500,000 views, apparently stuff like that is pretty popular.) More stuff like that would be great. Trying out some livestreams with live chat just for fun could in interesting too.

As much as I like the newer generation of games I would love to see like a blast from the past article. Where maybe someone reviews a retro game or maybe an article about the history of a retro game or console something like that.

Also more game conventions coverage would be awesome.

@get2sammyb: Yes. Actually I remember now that he invited questions in a forum post then went through them on camera. His passion was obviously Nintendo games, but I think doing those videos helped to give the site some much-needed personality. You could do the same thing.

1) Publish user articles once a week from a couple that have been submitted.
2) It would be great to have guides to obtaining trophies and videos to go along with obtaining the trophy.(Not sure if you all have done this but I have seen guides before but none with videos.
2) Interviews are great!
3) Live streams would be great for newly released PS4 games.
4) Authentic articles on the gaming world overall such as; personal opinion on games, 1st game played & how you felt, game experiences period. More of op-ed articles on games.
5)Continue being PushSquare

There's not a whole lot I'd change, although I'm not entirely sure I agree that Live Streams etc would be a good idea. I just don't think the site is big enough yet that it'd be worth doing things like live Q&A sessions. A podcast could work if there was a clear point to it, rather than just podcasts for the sake of it!

Also I'd have to disagree with the idea of guides / trophy guides becoming more of a thing. While it's cool to have the odd tips and tricks here and there, I think going to the extent of full trophy guides would be a step too far - there are other websites out there dedicated solely to that and who generally provide all the help you could need, which anyone can find with a few seconds on google. Focussing more on that on Push Square would in my opinion just take time away from being able to create interesting content for the rest of the site!

I do like the idea of having a spotlight for community content, but obviously this would be dependent on us lousy lot actually sending you in anything worth showing off!

Think I've mentioned this in the other thread, but I like the interviews that have been appearing more regularly, so definitely keep up the good work there. I liked the "What Do You Mean You Never Played..." feature, as this was something I'd suggested prior to it appearing, but I'm guessing there wasn't much appetite for that as it seems to have disappeared after a few runs!

Generally any sort of interesting content, be it current, retro etc is all good stuff! I have noticed that the primary focus of PS tends towards current / upcoming releases and news, so it would be cool to see any sort of interesting gaming related stories, past or present, that are interesting reads about things we might not know about and don't just relate to whatever's currently in the gaming news (the semi-recent piece on the history between Sony and Nintendo, for example).

As mentioned above, it would also be good to see more opinion pieces. A feature which I used to really enjoy reading in OPSM was when they took two staff members with polarising views on something game-related and had them each write a short piece arguing their point. That could be augmented online by having voting buttons for users to agree with one or the other, making it that bit more competitive! This is perhaps something that I would like to see most of all, but unfortunately I noticed about half an hour ago that PS Lifestyle have just started doing the same, so you might attract some flak / accusations of unoriginality :/

I've quite enjoyed this site for a good couple of years now, well since I picked up a PS4 actually and there are only a couple of things i'd like to see.

It would be great to see/hear a podcast and maybe a live stream via the PS4 itself, although this would be a pain with other "not so friendly" non-pushsquarers watching and commenting too.. So maybe a working way of doing that via the site. Thus only allowing members to comment or some such...

Other than that, a retro piece or two a month and maybe, depending on how it was structured, a guest piece by a member of the community. Appreciate this could be a minefield, but was thinking of say...a... "why I love (insert game)" piece.

No need for forum arguments or whatever, just a straight up opinion of why he/she loves (said game) and why its special to them.. This could stretch across all platforms.. Of course the main issue would then be you guys being inundated with material and possible editing needed, but it would be nice to hear others thoughts.

I stood there chattering in excitement, like a necrophile at a bus crash....

More video content and a user-rating system for games.

If you were to go down the route of including some community content, I think it would be interesting to look down routes other than just articles written by members of the community. If there are any more creative types among us Square Pushers (new name for the community - trademark that...) it would be cool to show off some of their talents in a game related way! Eg cosplay, fan art, covers of game music, that sort of thing.
