Reporting in, I just finished Super Castlevania IV. More than I expected, this game is quite the technical and cinematic marvel. The game is one huge rollercoaster ride, but unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired in the controls department. Music and graphics are great, the whip is awesome, if only the gameplay was just as smooth.

Please refrain from giving a score as user reviews are against the rules I am afraid. Post a small paragraph about the game and giving your impressions is fine. Thanks for understanding -Tasuki-

I have a hard time understanding this. I can't find this specific rule anywhere in the forum rules. Besides, I have a hard time seeing how there is anything wrong with posts like this. I have a hard time seeing these few lines as a review actually. Feels really random and discourages me from participating in the community to be honest.

User reviews are fine (on NLife at least), as long as you don't create a new thread for your review and/or link to your own website/YouTube channel.

@KratosMD Whats wrong with leaving your own score though? To stop independent wannabe professional reviewers "advertising" on here, perhaps? Suppose that kinda makes sense.

@kyleforrester87 Those are pretty easy to spot though, and you're not allowed to link to your own website in comments anyway. We're talking about users who have been a member for years, so I don't see the problem.

@KratosMD I agree to a point but I also think these rules should be reviewed and revised from time to time. This place can get kind of sleepy with the same people keeping the same threads alive. Perhaps having a look again at what is and isn't allowed will help promote a larger community. I'm all for rules, but I'll question something that doesn't make much sense, too.

@Octane Exactly.. dont think the iron fist approach is necessary. Its one thing if it's a new user clearly advertising, but someone who's been around here for months or years should get some leeway to put a score after a game he's played. Just my opinion like.

@KratosMD Eh, I get what you're saying. Still I think there is a balance between listening to the community and reviewing policies dynamically instead of following protocol like a robot. That said I've no idea what goes on here behind the scenes, so my comments are perhaps not worth much.

Ok I will chime in here. This comes from personal experience and I will admit I can be a bit iron fisted as in that I let one person do something and let someone else do it.

I did a score on a post about a game awhile back on Nintendo Life and was hit with a warning and told that it was against the rules. I do remember others getting hit by one as well.

So I hope you can see where I was coming from.

After consideration and talking it over with management it's fine as long as it's not a new thread and is not clearly a review. An impression if you will.

I apologize for the confusion, and I hope that clears that up.

What if we write a review but don't attach a score to it? Eurogamer style.

Tasuki

@Wesker As long as it's in a main game thread, not it's own thread made just for the post and it stays within a reasonable limit i.e. a small paragraph or two just enough to give an impression not a flow blown page and a half review.

Glad that common sense has prevailed on this because while working last night(I dont sign in while working as I dont trust the PC to be clean) I notice this comment and couldn't fathom why it would be an issue. I totally agree that a new thread to give a user review is wrong as it could lead to many a dispute/issue etc but a final verdict/score on your experience of a game in a comment your making within a correct thread seemed very strange to me.
Fair play @Takusi tho for admitting his error. +1

Being the one who started this topic, I wanted to reply to the discussion here real quick. I wanted to do this earlier, but I had kind of a busy week, sorry.

@Tasuki Thanks for taking the time to reply here. I can understand where you're coming from better and my topic wasn't meant as an attack on your moderation in general. Overall I'm really glad that rules are applied a bit stricter than in some other places, like @KratosMD mentions. And the community as a whole is better for it.

Keep doing a great job, Tasuki and team.
