Topic: Message saying External Storage is Disconnected

So the past few days every time I go to turn my PS4 on for the first time for the day I am greeted with the message saying my external hard drive is disconnected which it is not. I always put my PS4 in rest mode when I am done playing it for the day. I don't disconntect the drive yet always have to repair it first thing in the morning. Any ideas why it's doing this? Is my hardrive about to die?

@Tasuki I get this too. It may sound really simple but try moving the external hdd further away from the PS4. For some reason I always get that message if I've accidentally nudged it closer. Also I don't think it is a good idea to always put it into rest mode, you should always power off the console completely if it is not being used for a long time.

@LaJettatura I changed the setting and still got the error message unfortunately. I don't get it when I move the hdd further away from the ps4. Other people may have better luck though. Cheers for the advice, hopefully some will find it more useful than me.

@LaJettatura It is very strange, still can't get my head round it tbh.

I will keep the settings as they are, so your advice may not be in vain to me. I've currently have my ps4 hdd as the default storage device so any games I download install to there, as I kept getting that disconnect when the external hdd was used. So I will change it so games install on the external hdd and see if the settings you advised to change make a difference.

@Tasuki it could be your settings, in power save settings/ rest mode settings/ set usb to "always". The default is usually 3 hours and then it shuts off and apparently this can cause issues with External HDD's

of course it could just be something as simple as the USB cable or port, i know this sounds dumb but have you tried changing the cable and using a different USB port?
