Rumour, Rumour, Rumour: Gran Turismo 5 Maybe To Launch With A Track Editor, Ahem

Cars This Pretty & A Track Editor? Surely Not!

Cars This Pretty & A Track Editor? Surely Not!

If this turned out to be true and, y’know, actually kind of good, then you can pretty much guarantee that Gran Turismo 5 will totally set itself apart from the competition. As it happens, we’re not sure how reliable our source is, so take with a big fat pinch of salt.

E4G have “confirmed” this weekend that Gran Turismo 5 will launch with a track editor. According to them you’ll be able to edit or build your own tracks for the game, presumably for sharing online. It would certainly give you more chance to use those 900 or so cars with an infinite pool of tracks to choose from right?

Apparently SCEA confirmed to E4G, “Yes it will have a track editor. You will be able to rebuild a track from scratch or edit the tracks that are already put in Gran Turismo 5.”

We’re not sure what to think about these rumours to be honest. It’s certainly within the realm of possibility, but we’re questioning ourselves how likely it would be.

Would a track editor for GT5 really be that good an idea? I'm not convinced.

Everything about the GT games is lovingly and precisely crafted. To fit in with that, a track editor would need to be exceptionally good, and exceptionally detailed. Otherwise, not only would it stick out like the proverbial sore thumb, but Kaz Yamauchi wouldn't let it anywhere near what is set to be the defining game of his career so far.
  • I think it's doubtful that it will have a fully fledged editor/creator, I know a BD's big, but /that/ big? I'm expecting (like people on TSA have said) an editor that changes the track conditions, or one that allows you to choose the corners you want to use on the track, its hard to explain without a diagram.
  • I agree. Something that lets you edit the start and end points, corners, etc seems much more likely than a full-blown track editor.
