Playstation Motion Controller Wishlist #1 - First-Person Survival Horror.

With Tokyo Game Show fastly approaching and the promise of Playstation Motion Controller news with it, we take a look at some of our most anticipated genres for use with Sony’s new technology.

Imagine a sequel to Siren: Blood Curse in first-person played with Sony’s Playstation Motion Controllers. The PSN download is one of the most frightening, and “true”, survival horror games released this generation.

Now put yourself in the shoes of Siren’s protagonist, controlling your player’s hands with the Playstation Motion Controllers. The controller’s trigger sense could allow you to interact with the world. Reach into the screen and squeeze the trigger to grab hold of a drawer, pull your arm back to open it. Is there a rifle inside? Feel inside the draw, load the weapon and use your ammo wisely, you only have two shots. Clutching a torch in one hand and controlling the game’s only beam of light, flash the light towards the area from which you just heard a bump. Don’t shoot, it’s just the wind blowing.

Using the Playstation Motion Controller to put you inside the shoes of your protagonist could really emphasise the fear-factor in a survival horror game. The sense of vulnerability as you fumble with your torch and weapons would truly be frightening. To take the idea even further, imagine stopping next to a house’s dirty mirror, only for the Playstation Eye to super-impose your face onto the mirror. But slowly, as you inspect your face in the mirror, you notice a shadowy figure approaching from behind. Your shock and fear would be captured in the game, your game, because you’re interacting with it.

The possibilities are endless.
