I see where you're coming from, in the sense that they probably should be left in there for people who want to get them. But couldn't developers find a way of making collecting them a little more fun. And also, they should never be paramount to progression. Like they are in Sonic Unleashed *shudder*.

I dis-agree, why should game developers get rid of it when it does encourage alot of people to go back and get them. I don't think they should rid of it, it offers another playthrough, to say get rid of this is like saying get rid of harder modes.

The more gameplay that a game offers the BETTER.

Great article. I fully agree with you. Exploration should not be forced down your throat and should always be optional. I really didn't like how in Prince of Persia (2008) they made you explore the areas in order to advance to the next level. Some games get it right though, Bioshock for example didn't force you to go an hunt all the recordings and tonic in order to be able to advanced to the next level. The world was so rich and so beautifully detailed that I could not help but explore the world and I actually liked finding those tape recordings as each one was really well made. I do not agree with your opnion on inFAMOUS though. Yes, it was necessary for you to find the shards they did not make it mandatory and the dev team made it fun enough and gave you all the tools to make the process of finding them as easy as possible.

Thank You. Bionic Commando is a perfect example of this. The only treasure hunting Ive ever enjoyed was in Uncharted and thats because your a damn treasure hunter and the landscape is freakin amazing. But your dead on with this one. Im saying the hell with Platinum on Bionic Commando just because of this oh and Price of Persia.
