Rage Ain't Looking To Hot On The Playstation 3 Just Now.

Speaking with EDGE, id’s John Carmack has stated some issues with getting his game Rage to run as well on the PS3 as on the XBOX 360 and PC. While the 360/PC versions of the game are running at 60FPS, the PS3 is managing just 20FPS.

“The PS3 lags a little bit behind in terms of getting the performance out of it,” Carmack explains. “The rasteriser is just a little bit slower – no two ways about that.”

“The RSX is slower than what we have in the 360. The CPU is about the same, but the 360 makes it easier to split things off, and that’s what a lot of the work has been, splitting it all into jobs on the PS3″.

We recommend they speak to Naughty Dog immediately.

It's sad that some developers still try to use this card.
It makes them seem very unprofessional.

So many developers have proven this to be a load time after time....I mean, even way back with Elder Scrolls Oblivion. That game ran so much better on PS3.

I am pretty sure they will fix that issue before the game ships.

Exactly, this crap doesn't wash anymore - Uncharted 2 looks like being one of the best looking games of this generate across all consoles and it doesn't need an install, it doesn't need a gimped sub-HD resolution, it doesn't need reduced frame rates etc.

When the PS3 is used properly it cannot be beat. The problem is because multiplat developers take the easy/cheap option of getting it looking good on 360 and then try and fit a square peg into a round hole on the PS3.

There is nothing wrong with the performance of the RSX - go look at KillZone 2, Uncharted 2, MGS4, Heavy Rain, God of War III etc etc if you don't believe me. The problem is with the developers and anyone who says multiplat games don't effect quality or hold back the PS3 are, frankly, wrong.

On the plus side, at least the PS3 Rage will be on one Blu-ray rather than two DVD's so at least something has gone in the PS3's favour. I'd prefer it if they got their finger out and did a proper job of developing for PS3 though...
