Activision Are Threatening To Avoid Sony Platforms.

Activision boss Bobby Kotick has warned Sony that his company - Activision, the third largest publisher in the world - will cease to support the Playstation platforms unless they sort out the pricing.

Speaking with The Times, Kotick claimed:
[quote]
"I'm getting concerned about Sony; the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don't make it easy for me to support the platform. It's expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation.

"They have to cut the price, because if they don't, the attach rates are likely to slow", he continues. "If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony...When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console - and the PSP [portable] too."</blockquote>

Do you know who this would please the most? EA. The Playstation 3 install base is hardly floundering and Playstation 3 versions of multiplatform titles regularly cover around 40% of the total sales. Without Activision's Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk's and Call Of Duty franchises on the Playstation 3, we'd imagine EA would have a free-run with their Rock Band, Skate and Battlefield franchises.

Still, this is just more mounting pressure on Sony to drop the price. Many expect an announcement at Tokyo Game Show.
