Look Ma, No Gravity.

A protagonist with a shaven head. Enemies wearing silly suits. Cover points made from inexplicable, half-constructed walls. And dreary, muddy environments.

But while Saber Interactive's Inversion seems totally generic, its underlying gravity mechanic is what pulls it into an entirely new dimension. Shootouts might be flat and predictable on their own, but they're significantly twisted when you can jump onto the side of buildings and throw cars about.

Inversion's success will rely on its level design, but at least its doing something different. At least beyond first glance, anyway.
