NPD Confirms April Hardware Hits A Slump, Nintendo Defies The Trends With DSi

Playstation 2 - Price-Cuts Work.

The most noticeable thing about this month’s NPD data was the fact that the PS2 outsold the PS3. It’s either a positive thing in the sense that there is still life in a very old console, or a negative thing in that the PS3 was very low on the hardware sales sheet. Alas, things weren’t particularly much better for the XBOX 360 which only managed sub-200,000 sales itself. Especially considering it now retails for less than the Wii, you have to imagine Microsoft are a little worried. In fact even the Wii managed poor numbers by its own dizzy standards, albeit the release of the DSi managed to overturn what was was a disastrous month for the American hardware industry all around.

Check out the final numbers after the jump.

  • Nintendo DSi – 827,000
  • Wii – 340,000
  • Nintendo DS Lite – 215,000
  • Xbox 360 – 175,000
  • PlayStation 2 – 172,000
  • PlayStation 3 – 127,000
  • PSP – 116,000

*sigh*.
