Blu-ray Is Still A Very Important Format, Despite What Microsoft Think.

Microsoft's PR department's been spewing ridiculous statements left right and centre this week. Normally we don't choose to report them because we're a PlayStation website and our opinion about the "competition" holds little weight. Who really cares what we think about Microsoft's games division? We're here to write about PlayStation.

Sometimes Microsoft's dumb PR crosses over into Sony territory though. Take Stephen Gill's comments about Blu-ray this week. The dude's head of XBOX UK, so he's a pretty big cheese. He reckons Blu-ray is pointless.

“I think people may have spoken about that originally, but that’s long gone,” he said of putting Blu-ray in the XBOX 360.

“I think people now recognise what a smart decision it was to keep the pricing low, and actually Blu-ray is going to be passed by as a format.

“People have moved through from DVDs to digital downloads and digital streaming, so we offer full HD 1080p Blu-ray quality streaming instantly, no download, no delay.

“Who needs Blu-ray?”

Firstly, Mr. XBOX UK, you're a liar. No you do not offer Blu-ray quality streaming. You might offer HD streaming, but it is not Blu-ray quality. Secondly, let me know when there's enough bandwidth to handle streaming as a full replacement for Blu-ray movies. Thirdly, keep spewing this, Microsoft. You've become the Sony of 2006. And all the time you're acting arrogant, everyone's forgetting what muppets Sony were earlier in this generation.
