Sony's E3 this year is going to blow minds. It's a reasonable prediction, given what I've heard about their super secret Seattle conference. There's something big out there we haven't really even heard about yet, something brewing under murky depths of nondisclosure...something with big nasty teeth and rolling eyeballs of doom. Soon, it will feast.

Makidian what people need to do is think outside of the box so to speak. It's easy to get caught up in the hype and optimism for whichever your console preference. E3 could be huge for Nintendo and Microsoft too so there is no sense only having optimism for Sony.

What we do know is Sony is trying to push the envelop forward which is great and they also possess the most in house studios. However I feel they will be the only ones doing this because of costs and low install base. That's not to say 3rd party developers won't be pushing forward too with games like I am Alive, Modern Warfare 2 and Dante's Inferno (and many others) coming out but they are not just for one platform. Sony needs to exploit the hardware since the PS3 is the most costly and they are trying desperately to make it seem their system is more powerful and offers greater value. That's a lot of pressure to put on those studios and games like Killzone 2 aren't going to cover the losses that could be absorbed by releasing on more than one platform like the PC. However by releasing Killzone 2 on the PC takes away from PS3 hardware sales so it's a double edged sword.

Which begs the question, are exclusives a good business tactic? On one hand you are trying to promote the hardware and on the other hand you are trying to sell your games as best as possible. If a game like Killzone 2 costs more to make than Modern Warfare 2 but fails to sell as well then is the investment worth it? It's much harder to sell only on one platform (you could count the PSP as well) and be as profitable as open companies like Infinity Ward.

Sony had the developers on their side last generation and the one before that. Now not only do they face a more difficult learning curve to create games on those games have become much more costly and developers are now facing more options than just the Playstation brand to sell their games on. So we will see fewer of them take chances by creating exclusives for the PS3 and few taking full advantage of the PS3's hardware. This is essence takes away some of that value and makes people think twice about spending more for a PS3.

relax people, the article states waht has already been announced, not by the media, but by Sony representatives.

This arent rumors, its what Mr Koller stated in an interview. Its not that this is going to be the E3 with the most games, its going to be the E3 with the most AAA quality games. Just look at the list:

Assassins creed 2
Uncharted 2
Heavy Rain
Modern Warfare 2
BioShock 2
Team Ico Game
God Of War 3
Ratchet And Clank ACIT
MAG
Bad Company 2
Rage
Fuel
Final Fantasy X!!!V
Final Fantasy versus
Alpha Protocol
EatSleepPlay's game(possibly)

All this games have been announced for PS3, we arent even counting the ones that have yet to be revealed. Like Kingdom hearts 3 or twisted metal for PS3, or hell even a certain ultra requested REMAKE.

People dont bash the article, everything stated was based on real information, not even rumors, facts stated by Sony reps. Whats wrong with hyping about E3 and the PS3? I personally cant wait for E3.

I'm very satisfied with my ps3.infact I believe that ps3 has games in abundance.only xbots says "there are no games" maybe they can't buy it for the price or simply they hate sony/playstation, one thing is sure xbots are the worst exsample of fanboysm in the entire gaming age.
and I think that E3 2009 will be a real turning point in the entire gaming industry and the perception of truly nex-gen.
I believe that we'll see for sure next ico team's game and a new game from sony's cambridge studios and studio liverpool.
with these we'll have 9 exlusive AAA games for ps3.
Microsoft will show alan wake, halo odst and maybe gears of war 3.

@Levelhead

You make some very valid points and I think Microsoft will try and imitate Ninty more than Sony and that will probably end up backfiring. Sony got in the game to push the envelope of games further not take steps backward(though some would argue that is what they have done this gen) and create a great advanced machine containg double or triple offerings of the same general hardware configurations, that should keep costs' exponentially lower for the PS4(or whatever they call it). I tihnk each system has clearly defined itself this gen and that trend will continue with each one adopting some feature sets from the other next-gen but none totally going in one direction or the other.

I think a lot of the mainstream public bought into the idea of the Wii not knowing what was really happening with their purchase. I bought my Wii or my family but I wanted one specifically to play core Ninty games and old-school fare. My wife wanted it for the Wii centric titles like Sports and Fit. My kids are in between that. I have my PS3 for my core games and franchises that I love, I didn't buy into it for a Halo killer but for existing franchises and new ones from familiar studios that are mostly first party with a smattering of third and second party games. If I were to buy a 360 it would be for console exclusives only, RPG's of the J variety would be the most common factor for that, however I am unconvinced that these games(ie SO4) won't make it to the PS3 so I am not willing to make a jump just to play Halo or Gears because I am not a social gamer at heart. I grew up playing one and two player games, not frag fests and deathmatches, it's just how I am and I especially don't like gaming online with racist, homophobic tweens with crummy language and parent issues.

I can see the draw to each system and I think a lot of current Wii owners won't jump to the Wii2 because they will instead be looking at what the current systems(PS360) and make their decision next-gen based on what they should have been playing more of last, and I highly doubt that crown will go the Wii2. I think the DSi or a similar device will be what keeps Nintnedo in the game far in the future not the Wii.

Next-gen will be extraordinarily interesting in terms of who does what and when and how, but that's still a few years off at least if not longer. I stand by 2012 being the next wave of consoles except Microsoft they may launch a year earlier again because they have to, however I don't think it will retain the same effect it did last time that it did this time around.

On the topic if the article though I will only say this: Sony is gonna blow it out of the freakin' water and own E3. This is good and bad because they have no choice if they want to stay relevant longer and et those PS2 owners over to the PS3 next year. It won't happen this year because they just dropped the price but I think once they cut the price of the PS3 the tide is definitely going to turn back into their favor as that is the only true barrier they face in growth. They may be trying to get their costs down to the point that they can make a significant drop and still profit and for that I applaud them because it's one of the things that will keep them in the proverbial "game".

I also think Square may have something big hapening at E3 due to ACC releasing the same day as the start of E3 and its more gamer focused. At the very least I expect a FFVII copy to hit the PSN, at the most a remake announcent or KH3 announcment would be mind-blowing.
